The Society of the Anvil is a barony of dwarves in the Kingdom of Hyperion. Its members are known for their rough-and-tumble approach to gaming, including a laissez-faire approach to governance, behavior, and general guild direction. Colloquially, the Society of the Anvil is frequently referred to as "Anvil Society", "The Anvil", or simply "Anvil". Among its own members, the term "The Society" is used infrequently. The Society of the Anvil holds the county of Urth, and is first and foremost an aggressive economic and tradesman's county focusing heavily on resource monopolization, free trade, and an economy open to participation by non-members of its own county and even aliens of greater Hyperion.

The Anvil is split into feudal hierarchy consisting of fiefdoms in the form of vassal sub-clans residing in the county of Urth. While "The Anvil Proper" is an epithet used for the all-dwarf baronial clan itself, the individual fiefdoms of the Anvil Society include both humans and dwarves among their members. Selectively, elves can also exist in the Anvil, but the requirements upon the race make it all but exclusive. The Anvil currently boasts one solitary elven member, Treefingers, under the fiefdom allotted to the Church of Thelema, itself a hedonistic cult.
