Alright, Fishbarrel has challenged me to sing a Duchy recruitment song based on Tom Jones' funky hit "Help Yourself".

Those of you who are good with words, please feel free to contribute. You can LISTEN TO THE TRACK HERE. (http://www.kingdomofconscious.com/images/Tom_Jones_-_Help_Yourself.mp3)

All i ask, is that it rhyme the same way the original does, and has the same syllabic count! I would love to have it be a praise song for the Duke much like the pyong-yang propaganda. Dukes huge member, 6 holes in one, can fly, that kind of ridiculousness. I would also love to see something that mentions some gaming terms, and how we'll pwn j00.

Here are the lyrics:

Love is like candy on a shelf
You want to taste and help yourself
The sweetest things are there for you
Help yourself, take a few
Thats what I want you to do.

Were always told repeatedly
The very best in life is free
And if you want to prove its true
Baby Im telling you
This is what you should do
Just help yourself to my lips
To my arms just say the word, and they are yours
Just help yourself to the love,
In my heart your smile has opened up the door
The greatest wealth that exists in the world,
Could never buy what I can give
Just help yourself to my lips
To my arms, and then lets really start to live

Allllllllll right. yeah

My heart has love enough for two
More than enough for me and you
Im rich with love, a millionaire
Ive so much, its unfair
Why dont you take a share
Just help yourself to my lips
To my arms just say the word, and they are yours
Just help yourself to the love,
In my heart your smile has opened up the door
The greatest wealth that exists in the world
Could never buy what I can give
So help yourself to my lips, to my arms
And then lets really start to live
Just help yourself to my lips
To my arms just say the word, and they are yours

/salute

ugh, yeah, here's a stupid attempt for the first part...

Gonna tell a story for you now,
about the man to whom you'll bow
Better watch your ass for he'll pwn y00
Save yourself, join him now
That's the only thing to do

I don't know, I figure it would be a way to introduce the listener...
...someone needs come up with something better or we are screwed. =P

I'll tell a story for you now,
about the man to whom you'll bow

Like that part, the rest is kind of corny. If you're going to be corny, you have to be over the top corny!

I'll tell a story to you now,
about the man to whom you'll bow
he's not the worst, no he's the best
listen now, be my guest
i've got to get this off my chest!

they'll try to call him super-man
he'll kick your ass just 'cause he can
so listen up, and listen well
you'll find he's really swell
he'll save you from your hell

Just give right in to His Grace,
to his law, and to his words so you can see
Just pledge your life to His Grace,
and with that plege Duke Wessex can set you freeeeee!
The greatest guild that exists in the world,
we cannot fail, you can't resist
You can't oppose, for you see
he solves all his problems with an iron fist

Allllll right. Yeah!

But we have room enough for you!
Enough to house a friend or two!
We've got the best community
it's true, they're full of glee
there's even some RP!

Just give right in to His Grace,
to his law, and his words so you can see,
Just pledge your life to His Grace,
and with that plege we'll make a world for you and me!
The greatest guild that there ever was,
we can't fail, so you'll see
We'll win the day, get the girl
and we'll celebrate with drunken revelry

Just curious, how about using the music of Unser Rommel or Graf Zeppelin for a recruitment song?

On the subject of songs about games, here's a nice example of a successful one:

I listen to it all the time. :)

Fish, you're on the right track! The timing is just about right, too. But we need some more variations before I hit the studio with this. We can mention different endeavors too, like GTA, DF etc.

Based off of a German and a Thai song... I wrote this as a march song w/ background ONLY,

"Death lies as we ride toward the front,
If our comrades march foward, let us knights gallop and ride
beside Lady Morgaine we shall ride,
Through blizzards and storms,
Days as hot as hell,
Our spirt will contiue,
Safe, as we're in armor skinned.,
Our comrades still behind us roam;
We fight the foe alone,
Yes, fight alone.,
We stab through the line,
To break the foes backbone,
For what is our life?,
|:For we fight for our lady Morgaine!
For Lady Morgaine death rides!:|

Beautifully like a Cherubin in the sky,
We bleed the enemy dry,
You can feel Lady Morgaine in your heart,
Long and Loud as the devil smilies at us,
Death can walk smiling in the face,
Dead, dead, dead we all must be,
for Lady Morgaine as we fly towards heavan!
|:For we fight for our lady Morgaine!
For Lady Morgaine death rides!:|"
(The second paragraph needs some work)

My point is to create a hysterical song. In such beautiful lieds such as those of the Wermacht's in which they included phrases such as "We shall never step back." Obviously, in such a community as our own all we do is make fun of anything serious. Humour in that sense is good, as long as it isn't authority. However, in this sense the song represents the qualities of young people, like yourselves, going into battle fighting for such a cause as worthy for one to give his life. In this case, Lady Morgaine. Now Lady Morgaine as such is a ambiguous phrase because we fight for her, but what really is our motive?

The background music is,
http://eri.ca/refer/grafzepp.MP3

(currently the lyrics take up approximately half of the background music)

If this motion is declined I can always change it into a more solemn song such as Unser Rommel.

I need some feedback before I record my own version!

Surly von Fishbarrel

It's too serious. I know it's really hokey, but I don't think it has the appeal of something as ludicrous as Tom Jones. And besides, this is Aeneas's project... for which he supplied the music.

Guiscard

Well then, how about a drinking song?

Surly von Fishbarrel
07-24-2006, 02:21 PM
If you're willing to sing it, do it! We'll use it if it doesn't stink ;) Aeneas already booked his studio time for the Tom Jones song, though, and I can't expect he'll be doing any others in the mean time. Take it up with him directly I suppose.

I've heard Aeneas' singing before, he'd do Tom Jones really well. :o

Currently, I'm working on the storyboard because most of this is going to be live-action starring Duke Wessex himself. It would be great if Fish could come down for a day or two to co-star as his helpless protege.

The track will be finished by the end of next week.

Hopefully when you get that track the Duke will post the Duchy of Wessex recruitment thread in the Darkfall Forums? New blood is a healthy sign, and I don't think we've gotten any for quite a bit.

I think we might as well sing "Men of Wessex", though I'd be just as happy to hear us chanting and banging our assegai on our shields. Go, take the Poll (http://brandoncrane.com/wsx/forum/showthread.php?t=7656).

I've shared my basic views on this in the Darkfall forums at least once:
http://forums.darkfallonline.com/showthread.php?p=3772743

By the way, the lyrics are (as re-written from the Royal Canadian Hussars version for the film Zulu in 1964, and adapted with aplomb for us):
Men of Wessex, stop your dreaming;
Can't you see their spear points gleaming?
See their warrior's pennants streaming
To this battle field;

Men of Wessex, stand ye steady;
It cannot be ever said ye
For the battle were not ready;
Stand and never yield!
From the hills rebounding,
Let this war cry sounding
Summon all at Wessex's call,
The mighty force surrounding;
Men of Wessex, onto glory!
This shall ever be your story;
Keep these burning words before ye:
Wessex will not yield!
