I know this is very early thinking but sometimes it's important to plan ahead, promotional methods of recruitment (i.e. images made in a style of posters and later videos) could prove to be very effective.
I know videos would be out of the question until the game is actually released but images can still be made with screenshots from the Devs and our own images.
Back in 2004 when I was running a Halo clan we made a couple of stunt/promotional videos and sent them around a couple of sites we soon became one of the biggest clan in the game, early planning for such promotional moves could be quite beneficial to Wessex.
Only problem I can see right know with this move is complete idiots applying because they think they'll get an instant place, but I guess that's what the application process is for.

Well anyway as I said it's just an idea and opinions would be greatful.

Thanks.

I'm all for it. I envision us being successful in several games as time progresses, our rep and outreach should grow accordingly.

Jai - do you remember that LED video that someone from FDC made? Started out in GZ and the LED comes and harasses the guy who is standing on the grass and gets wasted? That was incredibly well executed. THink you could even find it so the rest of the folks can see it?

Maybe not, but as Rivers will attest, it was carefully shot and IMO, very well done. It has (at the very least) the kind of "production value" that we'd like in our vids.

If anybody has any ideas and an official Wessex logo I'm sure some of us artsy folk could cook up a few promotional images.

I'd really like to see a GTA promotional movie for WSX starting out with this intro (http://www.brunomorejon.com/musics/albuns/Dr.%20Dre/Dr%20Dre%20-%20The%20Chronic/The%20Chronic%20(Intro).mp3), and the first few bars looped. I'll get to work making the soundtrack.

How about using the background music of Unser Rommel or Graf Zeppelin? I'm sure we could come up with some exquisite lyrics.

I think hip hop music will go well with footage from SA, but different things can be tried during editing.

Some quick lyrics I just came up with for Unser Rommel:

He's leading us to battle and glorious victory,
And all his bravest men ride alongside him,
We're riding to dark lands where only evil recide,
But even though these lands are dim,
There is no doubt we will succeed,
So play the drum with pride,

Onwards, onwards with our Duke,
Onward with his Grace!

edit:

Here's the song btw. First time I try that uploading site, and it seems a bit pop-uppy.

Maybe I'm not experienced enough to have the sort of humour some of you do, but prehaps we could style our recruitment posters differently? For example, the Germans were very good at creating effective, blunt, and strong recruitment posters. Now here are some examples:

http://img77.imageshack.us/img77/5126/nederlandra6.jpg

Prehaps we could create a recruitment poster along these lines. Show the vast power and resources of Wessex, but with the flare of our religion and history?

Agreed. Try to look past the Nazi propaganda, and look instead to see its qualities for recruiting.

Those aern't German, lol

To answer Beric's question, these are German, and they are used for the recruitment of Dutch personal. I used these as examples since the two propaganda posters shown above were some of the most effective the SS ever used.

Yeah... How about we stay as far away from anything vaguely representing nazi recruitment posters as possible?

Nira Nathair

The corny propoganda poster look of both Nazi and mid-century American "artists" is not very effective on today's youth, raised in a media-rich environment. You need something both eye-catching and clever, and those are neither.

Agreed.

Answering all who criticize my examples, maybe your right. But, there must be some smuck whose contemporary... maybe it works for the more impressionable. But, your right, with today’s knowledgeable youth they would more likely frown upon such blunt propaganda. The opposite of that is clever indoctrination, therefore I recommend that we strive for such recruitment values.

Nira Nathair

Well, don't get me wrong... the propoganda style could be effective if you take it to a ridiculous extreme - then it's clever.

Also my point was not that today's youth are knowledgeable and will react negatively to propoganda. It's that we've grown up on television, action flics, bright color magazines, flashing billboards, the 30 second advertisement and the 5 second sound byte. Our eyes simply move right over things that don't reach out and GRAB them.

In more ways than one, we're very close to the futurist style that grew up with the fascist states in europe - speed, progress, conflict. The difference is that the media technology they had available was much more subdued and limited.

So, a propoganda poster that's flashy and over-the-top in its message could work quite well.

Like if we put a big picture of a penis on it. Except that'll attract the wrong kind of attention.

Well my point of introducing such examples may be defined in your reasons. I just stated that if today's youth was smarter, which was implied, then another type of propaganda should be valued. However, going back to impressionable, fast, blunt, and down right corny, if we could take it to a extreme then maybe, as you say, it could be quite effective.

If some people come up with some images then we could give them feedback etc. I'll try one when I get some spare time off work.
