The Treaty of Bakti

A treaty of Mutual Defence between the Guilds known as

Duchy of Wessex [WSX]

Blackguard [BLGD]

and

Nave World Order [nWo]

The Governor- General of the Duchy of Wessex in Nave and the Executive Leader of Nave World Order have, in consequence of recent political developments, the shared desire of forming an alliance to better protect and develop their two nations. This treaty, drawn up by the Governor-General, Mister Caldros Valkran of the Colonial Court of Nave, reflects this new partnership.

Article 1.
The Contracting Parties do agree to provide full and unconditional military support to their fellow Contracting Parties if one or more of the Parties are in a state of war, are under threat of immediate invasion or their primary assets are in danger of destruction, in the context of a defensive strategy.

The term primary asset covers any Keep, House or other building that is constructed by the Contracting Parties within Nave, or their respective territories.

Article 2.
The ultimate and final Aim of this treaty is to maintain and protect the territorial holdings, both personal and asset, within Bakti and the surrounding area, of the Contracting Parties and to ensure that the rights of their individual members to conduct free trade and to travel unhindered throughout Myrland is protected. All further articles should be read with this aim in mind and any dispute over the wording of an article should be resolved in the spirit of this Aim.

Article 3.
The Contracting Parties shall each on its own part, and in the manner it deems most proper, make all the efforts in its power against a Common Enemy in order to attain the proposed Aim.

A "common enemy" will hence forth be defined as any third party named as such by agreement of all contracting parties, and/or any third party who initiates hostilities against any one contracting party.

Article 4.
The Contracting Parties will each be equally represented by both A primary and a secondary leader or equivalent. These representatives will be declared and recorded upon signing. Each Party will also provide the contact details of individuals within its leadership who can be contacted to discuss matters of importance outside of those listed, should there be need.

Article 5.
A Contracting Party may begin an offensive campaign against a third party who is not a Common Enemy at any time, however this will not obligate other contracting parties to provide any form of support either during the offence or in defense of a retaliation. Taking action against a third party without informing the other Contracting Parties will result in the third party not being regarded as a Common Enemy if they take any action against the instigating Contracting Party.

Article 6.
During times of hostility the Contracting Parties agree that they will neither negotiate nor conclude an armistice or treaty except by mutual agreement.

Article 7.
This treaty comes into force from the day of its ratification by all Contracting Parties and remains valid until such time that all Contracting Parties agree that it is in their best interest to dissolve the treaty. Any one contracting party may withdraw from this treaty given a three month notification period prior to such action. This notification period may be waived given mutual consent from all remaining contracted parties.

Article 8.
Each Contracting Party is responsible for taking steps to ensure that neither they, nor anyone under their jurisdiction, violate the treaty. The Contracting Parties have the right to raise any concerns that they may have with any other Contracting Party's implementation of this treaty but must entrust the Contracting Party in question to resolve these concerns in the manner they deem best.

Article 9.
Any amendments or additions to the treaty may only be made if all Contracting Parties are in full agreement to the proposed changes. Any such changes will take effect when the treaty is officially updated. Additional nations may only join the Mutual Defense Agreement if the contracted Guild Leaders unanimously agree to accept each applicant nation.

Article 10.
The Contracting Parties have entered into this treaty with the intention of forming a permanent mutual defense agreement.A Party may only withdraw from the treaty with the mutual consent of their fellow Contracting Parties, or after three months notification of this desire to withdraw has be given and witnessed. Any Party that denounces the treaty under any other circumstances may be subject to any and all sanctions imposed by the remaining Contracting Parties, up to and including being declared a Common Enemy.

Article 11.
The Guild Leaders will be responsible for organizing and arranging agreement-wide events that will encourage cooperation and goodwill between the Contracting Parties, including coordination in combat.
