I'm not seeing any village names on my map for some reason

I didn't either. I am thinking we should make a plan to take one of those control points at some point in Beta though, if nothing else to verify the mechanics are the same. The Afgan Navy took one yesterday I believe.

I've seen a few people capture them. For whatever reason the villages were initially visible on the map but have since been taken off.

I rolled an alfari on the EU server, and while there noticed that the control points give the message that they are vulnerable in 30 minutes, so that is what I saw last night.
