Gentry

The gentry are the nobility of the Duchy. They have special privileges and special responsibilities. Some own large tracks of land called “fiefs”, which they oversee and which operate as semi-independent communities. They will fill the top tier positions in the government and military. Just as a [[villein]] must pay a tax to his lord, the gentry must pay taxes to the [[Duke]]. One can become a member of the gentry through remarkable military or civil service. The gentry include: The [[King]], [[Duke]]s, [[Baron]]s [[knight]]s, [[baronet]]s, [[bishop]]s and [[esquire]]s. His Grace and His Majesty are also members of the gentry. The gentry also fill specialized civil roles.
