A captain is the commander of any ship. They can be any gentry, freemen or villeins who can afford to own and operate a vessel. It is up to the captain to decide whether to engage in trade as a merchant or hire himself to the duchy as a privateer. However, only gentry may be granted a vessel by the duchy to command as a ducal warship.
